So...who's seen it? What did they think? Did it live up to the hype?

Speilberg gives a praising review: http://www.heatvisio...-star-wars.html

Underneath all the spectacular effects, I thought the story and characters were kind of lacking. But I'm already looking forward to the making of, because there was a /lot/ of work that went into the technical side of things. Too bad the story and characters kind of suffered as a result.

No the plot was terrible, the hype makes it sound way better. Just replace the Nav'i with the American Indians but have the Indians win and you got the movie. the special effects were really good thought and the colonel character was badass but thats it.  :chewy:

I saw this film twice. First was on ordinary cinema.  I did not appreciate it at all.  I got bored at some point.  However, when I watched it in 3D at the SM MOA's IMAX (Philippines), it was like a whole new film.  Wow!  I love it!

Just wandering ....Is there another movie called AVATAR ???? What are you talking about , people . Comparing Avatar with that miserable Holmes ? Jesus . Come on !!! You don't like the story ? Of course , you don't . And why is that ? Tell you why . Because is dam reality . Just imagine some other nations destroyed by any f*****g army . That's why Jim Cameron missed that stupid Oscar Award for Best Picture . Who cares . Avatar is the Best Picture . Not that Bigelow Baghdad issue . I saw Avatar only on DVD at home . Even than , I was in shock . Never , ever saw something like Avatar . And people still doubt that Oscar is not about politics . Haha , some people... :Reel:

I liked it, sure the plot is formula but the visuals are stunning... I didn't get to see it in 3D though which I think was a real shame.... maybe I'll have to save up and get myself one of those 3D TVs!

Check out a great review of the film on a new website I've started...

Hrmm...this is another case of needing to just enjoy a movie for what it is. The special effects were awesome, and if the storyline was original then the movie would have rated a bit more highly IMO.

For those of you who have watched more animated movies from the 90's, Avatar is basically Fern Gully in 3D. Watch both movies back to back and you will see what I mean, just replace the Na'vi with fairies, watch how there is a scene in EACH movie where the big yellow logging truck tears down important trees etc - the comparison is obvious.

Also throw in a little bit of Dances with Wolves for good measure. James Cameron paid for good visual effects, and Sam Worthington..who unfortunately dropped his american accent so many times that it was halfway through the movie that I clicked he was portraying an American (I'm an australian so I actually didn't notice his accent for a while).

Just my opinion, I enjoyed the movie, but more for the effects than any originality.

in my opinion the movie was overated. everyone i talked to was like "omg its amazing you gotta see it!!!" "best movie of all time" but i just sat there in dissapointment for 3 hours or however long it was. the special effects i have to admit were good, but just as Schmidtsaid before, its just like pocahontas.

I saw it with a girl in theater and I forgot most of the plot at the end. Lol, I'm kidding.
But really, I can almost predict the ending at the middle of the movie. Even what the movie is trying to tell is great, the way it designs lacks much. Good plot, to my opinion, needs foreshadow, coincidence, turn, and unpredictable endings. Avatar lacks them all.

To be honest, when I first saw the trailer I thought it wasn't really something I'd be interested in seeing.
The kids I was babysitting overpowered me and made me watch it, but soon ended up loving it! It's interesting, I thought it was original until I heard about the similarities between this and Pocahantus, good thing I've never seen it I guess, haha! And it's true when the hype said it's a visual breathrough, I couldn't keep my eyes off the screen at all.

I saw Avatar 3 times in 1 month when it first came out. Then, I saw it again when the extended version was released.
After I saw the movie, I have to admit...I was kind of obsessed. I kept wishing that I can live in that world.
I wish I could go to Pandora!
