 I`l start with my favourite film , from 1975 , Barry Lyndon , written and directed by Stanley Kubrick . Redmond Barry ( Ryan O`Neal ) is a young Irish , in love with his cousin Nora Brady . However , Nora becomes engaged to a British officer . Hurt by this , Barry challenges the captain to a duel . Barry wins the duel but must flee to Dublin avoiding the authorities . Determined to become something aristocratic , he sets off to make his way in the world . Robbed by two men and without money , Barry joins the British Army to fight in the Seven Years War . Deserting the British , Barry ends up in Prussian Army , saves the life of Capt. Potzdorf ( Hardie Kruger ) and become Prussian spy . Then , he meets gambler / con artist , Chevalier de Balibari , learning from him : lying , cheating , stealing and climbing up the social ladder of the aristocracy . This culminates in Barry`s marriage to the wealthy Lady Lyndon ( Marissa Berenson ) . Taking her name , he is now Barry Lyndon , aristocrat ,with power , influence and money he long desired . But...Wow! This is just the beginning . Astonished cinematography , music , everything . Stanley Kubrick was shooting Barry Lyndon for four years just to catch desired lights and put them all together in remarkable frames for all time . Won Oscar Award for Cinematography and Costumes . That`s all for today  :typing: Watch Barry Lyndon if you missed somehow and enjoy  :Munching:  Posted Image

One Flew Over The Cuckoo`s Nest from 1975 , directed by Milos Forman , starring : Jack Nicholson , Louise Fletcher , Danny DeVito , Christopher Lloyd , Brad Dourif...Patrick McMurphy ( Jack Nicholson ) is common criminal , sent to an insane assylum because the prison authority believe he is disturbed . Life on that ward becomes a battle between McMurphy and sister Mildred Ratched ( Louis Fletcher ) for control over the destinies of the inmates . Most of the men are there by choice and are afraid to leave quiet and controlled ward . What more to say about Cuckoo`s Nest that you don`t know already . Great , great movie with brilliant acting of the actors . Of course , Jack and Louise won Oscar Award for their roles . That`s all for today . See ya and  :signs122

You think that I`l gave up because you don`t have any comment or opinion ?  :banghead: Here is another one . Remains Of The Day ( 1993 ) directed by James Ivory , with Anthony Hopkins , Emma Thompson, James Fox , Christopher Reeve ...Stevens ( Anthony Hopkins ) was raised by his father to became the head butler of Darlington Hall . So , no one can fault him for putting his duty to his master above his own personal life . He meets Mary Kenton ( Emma Thompson ) the head housekeeper , who falls in love with him . When the end of World War Two reveals that the Lord of Darlington Hall was holding international conferences there to try to form ties between England and Nazi Germany , Hall was sold out to American businessman ( Christopher Reeve )... That`s about it , people . Anthony Hopkins was remarkable . He won all possible Awards around the world for this role , except Oscar . Whatever , we all know that Oscar is pulp last few decades . :mafia:  Oh , I`l almost forgot , guys on other Forums talk about this movies , I mean , really talk . :D

Well , next one is Billy Wilder's The Apartment , with Jack Lemmon and Shirley McLaine ....C.C. " Bud " Baxter ( Jack Lemmon ) has valuable assets and that's an upper west side apartment . He routinely vacates the apartment for company executives and their mistresses , with promesse from his bosses that he will be rewarded with a speedy climb to executive ranks...Great Comedy / Romance with great performance . Just won 4 Oscar Awards for Best Picture , Best Director , Original Screenplay and Art Direction . So , what's going to be ? Shell I drop off this subject or not ?  :popcorn99:  I'll think about it .  :dance2:

stumbled back on here by chance, and wow someone is really making some effort :yahoo: i would chime in myself with some recommendations, but your effort so far is so highly commendable i really want to see what your next choices are, and i have to admit that although i am a big kubrick fan i have not seen 'barry lyndon', his only other one that i have some how missed is 'lolita'. i will definetly search out a copy of 'barry lydon'. other choices so far i'm in full agreement, although i would rate other wilder films a lot higher, and i'm sure they will turn up sooner or later in your recommendations. great work from one happy viewer :watchmovie:

I feel stronger after ONE reply .  :bigdrink: This one is really special...Sydney Pollack , from 1969 , They Shoot Horses , Don't They ?...With Jane Fonda , Michael Sarrazin , Susananah York , Gig Young , Red Buttons , Bruce Dern...It's 1932 , Great Depression drags on . The unemployed are willing to trade their dignity or their lives for some cash . Hundreds come together to participate in a Dance Marathon . Couples , some romantically linked and some strangers pairing up for the contest . They are dancing continually , a 10 minutes break every two hours , hour upon hour , day after day , week after week until ,one by one they drop from exhaustion .... Whoa ! What a movie ! You have to watch this one . What a Drama ! Gig Young won Oscar Award for Best Supporting Actor . See ya , tomorrow .  :typing:

My next choice is Mihalis Kakogiannis's Zorba The Greek , with Anthony Quinn , Alan Bates , Irene Papas and Lila Kedrova , from 1964...A young writer named Basil ( Alan Bates ) inherits a mine in Crete from his Greek ancestors . On his way , to check out his inheritance , Basil hires Zorba ( Anthony Queen ) to be his cook when he reaches his destination . Zorba convinces Basil to stay with Madame Hortense ( Lila Kedrova ) who is running a boarding house that to Basil looks like brothel . After , Basil decides to stay in Crete and hires Zorba to work in his mine . He begins to learn life lessons from Zorba and even fall in love in desirable widow ( Irene Papas ) ...Everybody knows famous theme from this movie , composed by Mikis Theodorakis , even not watching the film . Lila Kedrova won Oscar Award for Best Supporting Actress but brilliant Anthony Queen missed this one ( won 2 Oscar's before for Lust For Life and Viva Zappata ) . He was beaten by Rex Harrison for My Fair Lady , but that was not even close to Zorba . Well , that's all for this time   :Yeahh:

Hi...It's me again ... :vampire40: ...My next choice is Martin Scorsese's ( 1990 ) Goodfellas...Ever since he was a little boy , Henry Hill ( Ray Liotta ) wanted to be a gangster . " Goodfellas " follows the story of Henry and his two friends , James Conway ( Robert De Niro ) and Tommy De Vito ( Joe Pesci ) . The three friends work their way deeper and deeper into the New York City organized crime scene . But , Henry starts to strike up some business deals on his own . At first , he remember his friends and gives them a taste of the action , but ....You have to watch the rest of this Scorsese's masterpiece . This remarkable director went all the way to 2006 to won his first Oscar for Best Picture and Best Director ( for Departed ) . Shame on Academy .  For Goodfellas Joe Pesci won Oscar for Best Supporting Actor . Well...By and  :signs122:  over here .

Konnichiwa  ;)
The next one is Brian Singer's Usual Suspects ( 1995 ) . The plot revolves around Roger Kint ( Kevin Spacey ) and his involvement in a crime . He spends most of his time explaining to the police his side of the story . He tells an elaborate story of a crime heist gone wrong , where each of his four fellow partners ended up dead ...Beside Spacey , also starring : Gabriel Byrne , Stephen Baldwin , Benicio Del Toro...Brilliant movie , won 2 Oscars , for Best Supporting Actor ( Kevin Spacey ) and Best Original Screenplay . I'm sure that every one of you had seen this movie .
Sayonara

just lending a helping hand....and my selection is 'Boogie Nights' just an everyday tale featuring such characters as Dirk Diggler, Roller Girl, Amber Waves, Little Bill etc featuring Burt Reynolds best ever performance, and still by some distance P T Anderson's best film. Some of the camera work is quite dizzying, nodding to Scorsese's 'Goodfellas'. 'Boogie Nights' the 'Goodfellas' of of the porn industry. Had nominations for oscars, and should have won the lot, but left empty handed :(

Next one is from this decade , Oliver Dahan's , La Vie On Rose ( 2007 ) with Marion Cotillard , Gerard Depardieu...
It's about extraordinary life of Edith Piaf . We discover the soul of a true artist who is ready to sacrifice everything , even herself , for the love of art...
Won Oscar for Best Actress In Leading Role ( Marion Cotillard ) and Oscar for Best Makeup . Marion is brilliant as Edith . This is one of the best acting , my friends . Maybe this one is not the best picture , but she was so great that I've to put in this list .  :watchmovie:
